Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has confirmed that she and her husband Anwar Ibrahim mortgaged their house to raise funds for the 14th general election.
"We had ways to face the general election. One of them was that we did a mortgage," she told reporters in Putrajaya this evening.
However, she disagreed with PKR vice-president Rafizi Rafizi's claim that the party's deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali did not help to raise funds for the polls.
"He did help... in his own way," said the outgoing PKR president, without elaborating.
Azmin, the economic affairs minister, was the menteri besar of Selangor at the time.
On Sept 9, Rafizi claimed that Anwar and Wan Azizah were left with no option but to mortgage their house in Bukit Segambut to raise RM4 million to pay the deposits for PKR's candidates.
"They still haven't repaid the loan," he said.
Rafizi is contesting against Azmin for the PKR number two post in the coming party polls, and both camps have been levelling a slew of accusations against each other.
Voting for the PKR election begins on Sept 22. The election will take place over a span of six weekends, in different regions, ending Oct 28.
