Works Minister Baru Bian has claimed to have over declared his monthly income to MACC, which listed the PKR lawmaker as earning a whopping RM108,056 on its asset declaration portal.
This places the Sarawak politician ahead of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (RM86,464.92) Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution (RM77,629.68) and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad (RM75,861.57).
Baru said he erroneously declared receiving allowances for being both the Selangau MP and a minister when he only received allowances for the latter post.
“I am making a new declaration now. I over declared, I declared double allowances.
“I can't beat Lim Guan Eng. The real amount should be much lower, RM78,000 around there,” he told Malaysiakini.
Later, Baru also explained on Twitter regarding his over declaration.
“I just realised from the report on asset declaration of all the YBMs I have double-declared my MP's allowance. I'm in the process of filing a corrective declaration.
“I can't be ahead of the finance minister,” he added, with a “smiley” emoticon.
A monthly income of RM78,000 would make Baru a contender for the second highest-earner spot among Pakatan Harapan lawmakers, placing him behind Lim.
As of 6:30pm, 84 Harapan lawmakers and their monthly income are listed on the MACC website.
There are no details for one name on the list – Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P Waythamoorthy.
Based on past cabinet salary figures and the 10 percent pay cut Mahathir announced early in his administration, the prime minister pulls in an estimated monthly salary of RM20,543.99.
The deputy prime minister's estimated monthly salary is RM16,351.33, while ministers earn about RM13,416.48 a month. - Mkini
