NACP launched, aims to tackle corruption for next five years

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today launched the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) which aims to tackle corruption in the country for the next five years.
The plan, developed by the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC), incorporates 115 initiatives which cover six sectors, namely politics, law enforcement, public procurement, legal and judiciary, public administration, and corporate management.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan were among the 22 recipients of the 2019-2023 NACP books in the event which took place at Putrajaya International Convention Centre in Putrajaya.
Other recipients included PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, as well as representatives from the government agencies and non-governmental organisations.
In a press conference later, Mahathir stressed that the NACP will focus on the future.
"This is a crucial step. Maybe there are parties who think we still dwell in the past. However, we must remind ourselves of the past so that we won't repeat the same mistakes.
"What is important now is that we focus on tackling the corruption issue for the future. We are not only punishing the offenders but also working on a plan to ensure the same mistakes won't be repeated," he said.
The NACP, Mahathir added, serves as a warning to everyone including himself and the ministers.
Mahathir also reminded the people that the Pakatan Harapan government has a plan to develop the country despite some bad perception towards it.
"Many people think that the government doesn't have a plan and the ministers always make contradicting statements.
"Yes, I admit there have been mistakes but we must remember that as humans, we make mistakes, we do wrong things, but the most important thing is we want to correct them the best we can and learn from the past.
"It's doesn't mean that (parties in) Harapan government are not working together to heal the country. We will achieve our target and make us the Asian Tiger," he said. -Mkini
