Bersatu will not take action against Deputy Foreign Minister Marzuki Yahya over the academic certificate fiasco, its president and Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
"No (action). I feel that he has given his explanation and that is sufficient on the real situation," he told a press conference after he visited Battalion 4th of General Operations Force in Semenyih.
Marzuki has denied that he graduated from the prominent Cambridge University, Muhyiddin said.
"Maybe some are not happy, but that's another matter… people can spin, but for me, this is already sufficient (to clarify the fiasco)," he said.
As such, he said Marzuki's position as Bersatu secretary-general would remain.
"As for his cabinet position, it is the prerogative of the prime minister," Muhyiddin added.
On Feb 6, Marzuki clarified that his degree in business administration was from the US-based Cambridge International University.
His academic credentials had been thrust into the spotlight after a police report was lodged over claims he had lied about obtaining a degree from Cambridge University in UK.
Cambridge International University is not an accredited institution and its website has raised questions about its credibility.
Critics have said that the institution is a degree mill. - Mkini
