The four Johor Pakatan Harapan component parties have agreed that the new Johor menteri besar must come from Bersatu.
This was decided during a meeting at Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's home in Kuala Lumpur.
According to a source with knowledge of the matter, the decision was a unanimous one.
"In the interest of Harapan's stability, the consensus was to maintain that the nominee should come from Bersatu.
"However, His Majesty has yet to respond to the resignation letter of the current menteri besar. We have to wait for His Majesty to return (from abroad)," the source said.
During the meeting, Johor Harapan shortlisted the four state assemblypersons for the job:
- Dr Shahruddin Jamal (Bukit Kepong)
- Mazlan Bujang (Puteri Wangsa)
- Mohd Izhar Ahmad (Larkin)
- Mohd Solihan Badri (Tenang)
Johor Bersatu division leaders are expected to deliberate on the matter with the party leadership this afternoon.
Incumbent menteri besar Osman Sapian had submitted his resignation letter to the Johor palace last week.
Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar is expected to grant Osman an audience this Saturday.
Osman said he can only reveal why he decided to resign after conferring with the ruler.
According to Article 4(2)(a) of the Laws of the State of Johore, the ruler will have to choose a menteri besar whom he believes will "likely command the confidence of the majority of the members of the assembly".
Johor Bersatu currently has 11 state assemblypersons in the 56-seat assembly. - Mkini
