Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is free to invite controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik to deliver a speech on its campus, says Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Cheng.
"I think (this question) is for the university to answer. It is part of their autonomy," she said when met at Parliament lobby.
Teo was asked about Zakir being the sole speaker at the 'Duty of a Muslim as a Professional' event, scheduled to take place on April 18 at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall in UUM.
The event poster states that "All Muslims and non-Muslim are invited."
