PKR leaders are confident that the 10,000 boxes of reformasi mooncakes would be snapped up despite the Chinese community's dissatisfaction over the introduction of Jawi khat (calligraphy) in vernacular schools and the decision to allow the Lynas rare earth plant to continue its operations.
Party vice-president Chang Lih Kang urged Malaysians to purchase the mooncakes to support the reformasi movement.
“To me (the dissatisfaction of the Chinese) is not a problem which would affect sales.
“I call on everyone who feel that reformasi must be carried out and the promises (in the Pakatan Harapan) must be implemented to buy the mooncakes.
“This would remind the nation's leaders and party leaders that the people care and want to know the progress of the reformasi,” he told reporters at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.
PKR leadership council member Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad emphasised the need to go to the ground to explain these controversies.
“Of the numerous issues which have arisen, some see it from a racial viewpoint but I see as problems affecting the rakyat regardless of race.
“In politics, you have to encounter numerous processes. There is no such thing as a perpetual honeymoon,” he told the same press conference.
Meanwhile, PKR treasurer-general Lee Chean Chung also believes that negative sentiments would not affect sales.
“We hope... we are confident of the people's support. Those who still see the reformasi agenda as crucial must support and continue to support the party which stands for reformasi,” he added.
