
JOHOR BARU: Two women were killed in an early morning fire at a hardware shop at Jalan Indah 8/15 in Taman Bukit Indah here.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call about a fire, which broke out at the double-storey shophouse, through the MERS 999 emergency hotline at around 4.34am on Monday (Aug 9) morning.
Six fire engines from Iskandar Puteri, Larkin and Skudai fire stations and 28 firemen were immediately deployed to the scene.
The department operation commander Inggai Bakau said there were five people, including a six-year-old child, inside the burning building when the incident took place.
“A man and a woman believed to be between 30 and 40 were rescued together with the child, who was sent to a private hospital to seek medical treatment.

“However, we found the bodies of two female victims between the ages of 20 and 70 inside the building, ” he said here on Monday.
Inggai added that the department has handed over the bodies to the police for further action and were still investigating the cause of the fire.- Star
