We don't want another Kajang move, let Amirudin complete full term as Selangor MB, say Umno, PAS

SHAH ALAM: Both Selangor Umno and PAS want Amirudin Shari to complete his full term as Mentri Besar instead of being replaced.

Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said they did not want to see a repeat of the dramatics during the infamous Kajang move in 2014.

The Kajang move was initiated to eject the then mentri besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim from office that year.

"It is a waste of time and money to initiate things such as by-elections for such a purpose, " Ahmad Yunus told a press conference at the Selangor Umno office here Thursday (Aug 8).

Speculation is rife that there is dissatisfaction among some state assemblymen over Amirudin's leadership.

The press conference at the state Umno headquarters was held to inform the media about both parties' collaborative agenda pending the next general election.

Yunus, who is Sijangkang assemblyman and the sole PAS elected representative in the Selangor legislative assembly, also said the Opposition bloc in Selangor was concerned that the chaos in the Federal Government appeared to have seeped into the state government.

"We don't want any chaos happening in Selangor, " he said.

On the controversial amendment to a Syariah enactment on unilateral conversion, which was not tabled at the legislative assembly sitting last week, Yunus said it should not have happened that way.

"It should have been tabled and debated and does not matter if agreed upon or not, " he said, adding that the failure of tabling the proposed amendment was reflective of a weak state government.

Earlier during the press conference, Selangor Umno chief Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan said many issues were discussed in the maiden Umno-PAS joint meeting.

One of it was to keep up the momentum of the collaboration to be able to win the next general election.

"We have agreed to have a joint secretariat at the state level which will be chaired together by me and Yunus, " said Mat Nadzari.

He added joint committees will also be set up at division levels.

According to Mat Nadzari, both parties have also agreed to divide the state into six zones.

"Since we have six zones, we will be having six roadshows, and the first one will take off at the end of September or early October, " said Mat Nadzari.

He said the grand finale of phase one of the six road shows will be a day-long affair expected to be held in November.

"Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his PAS counterpart Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will be attending the finale, and delivering keynote addresses, " he added.- Star
