Dr Wee wants assurance that taxpayers under voluntary disclosure programme will not be investigated

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) wants the Finance Ministry to assure that taxpayers who take part in the Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme (PKPS) will not be investigated by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
"Can the Finance Ministry give its commitment to the rakyat after they make their payment and receive confirmation from IRB, that they will not be audited and reinvestigated?" the MCA president asked in Parliament on Thursday (Nov 21).
The Ayer Hitam MP also wanted to know how many had made the voluntary disclosure under the PKPS.
Dr Wee also wanted the Finance Ministry to confirm whether IRB had in fact audited any taxpayers under the PKPS.
In response, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Aminuddin Hamzah said a total of 273,814 individual and corporate taxpayers have made disclosures under the PKPS.
"Since PKPS was held from Nov 3,2018, to Sept 30 this year, IRB has successfully identified an assessment of RM7.16bil.
"The amount of tax successfully collected by IRB through PKPS until Aug 31 this year is RM4.03bil," he said.
He assured that the IRB would not audit or investigate taxpayers who have made the voluntary disclosure during the PKPS period.
"This commitment has been stated clearly under Paragraph 5.10 Operation Guideline 2019 for IRB," he said. - Star
