PETALING JAYA: Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has called on his Pakatan Harapan (PH) allies to stand by the former ruling coalition and its leader, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
This comes amid a call from a DAP Youth leader for PH to be disbanded should Anwar fail to apologise for instructing against a bloc vote on the 2021 budget in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
PH leaders have come under heavy criticism after the opposition’s failure to muster the support of 15 MPs to force a bloc vote. This led to the budget being passed through a voice vote.
Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, said in every alliance, each had their strengths and weaknesses.
“Once we come together, it is difficult to go our separate ways because of our relationship and our common struggle.
“It is the same with our relationship with (former prime minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad. When there were voices urging me to leave him and attack him, I said ‘no’.”
This, Mohamad said, was because PH had worked with him to oppose a powerful government in the 14th general election.
He said the relationship between Pakatan Harapan parties and Anwar went as far back as 20 years.
“Together, we went through hardship for the same struggle. This (relationship) must be defended.”
Mohamad said weaknesses can be rectified and what was important was unity and friendship, while making new allies.
This, he said, had been his stand, even with other parties that he had allied himself with. - FMT
