Ensure MySejahtera glitches do not recur during polls, says MP

Opposition MP Alice Lau says glitches in the MySejahtera application could cause unfairness in the voting process.

PETALING JAYA: An opposition MP has urged the Election Commission to come up with alternative solutions to ensure glitches on the MySejahtera mobile application do not recur during the coming state elections in Melaka and Sarawak.

Alice Lau (PH-Lanang) also hoped that the health ministry would look into the issues with the application seriously.

Yesterday, it was reported that there was a bug in the application, causing some people to be put under the Covid-19 home surveillance order (HSO) and person under surveillance (PUS) statuses.

The MySejahtera team apologised via its Twitter account yesterday for the bug.

“I am worried that the same thing will happen during polling day for the coming Melaka and Sarawak state elections.

“If the same incident happens then, there would be unfairness in the voting process as voters will not be able to leave their homes or go to their polling stations to perform their duties,” Lau said when debating the national budget in the Dewan Rakyat today.

She added that she had received complaints that even though the technical glitch had been rectified, some users’ vaccination certificates had disappeared.

“How can they go out when the app needs to be used in all places?” asked Lau.

She added that the incident should not have taken place.

“People felt helpless and stressed because of these glitches. Those who were on holiday were not allowed into premises such as hotels and shopping malls, and people boarding their flights for work or education were barred.

“Is the government taking responsibility and going to pay compensation to those affected? Who will take responsibility for the glitches?” she said.

Lau also suggested that the government set up a 24-hour hotline for the MySejahtera application.

“Currently, there’s only a helpdesk in the app. It takes a long time for users to get a response to their issues.

“I still get complaints from those who are vaccinated and their status has not been updated until now even after countless complaints through the helpdesk,” she added. - FMT
