HANOI: Taekwondo exponent Syafiq Zuber clinched a surprise gold medal for Malaysia in the kyorugi discipline at the Hanoi Sea Games today.
Syafiq emerged victorious in the men's kyorugi Under-80kg, defeating Vietnam's Minh Bao Kha Pham 15-7 in the final at the Tay Ho Gymnasium.
The 22-year-old had earlier defeated the Philippines' Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison Barias 35-31 in the semi-finals.
Nurul Farah Alisa Roslan had earlier lost to Cambodia's Casandre Nicole Tubbs 15-5 in the women's Under-62kg quarterfinals. - NST
