Azalina agrees with ‘Uncle Lim’ on reviewing AGs’ decisions

Pengerang MP Azalina Othman Said, a former law minister, said she agreed 100% with Lim Kit Siang’s suggestion.

PETALING JAYA: DAP stalwart Lim Kit Sing has found an unlikely ally in Azalina Othman Said after the former law minister agreed with his proposal for attorneys-general to be held accountable for decisions made.

“I agree with YB uncle Lim 100%,” she tweeted.

Azalina, who is Pengerang MP, said the Federal Constitution must be amended “as soon as possible”.

Lim had suggested amending the constitution to allow MPs to review decisions of the attorney-general, who has power over prosecution of criminal cases as well as being the government’s chief legal adviser.

In her tweet, Azalina also tagged several opposition MPs, including Loke Siew Fook (DAP), Maria Chin Abdullah (PKR) and Darell Leiking (Warisan).

Lim had made the suggestion about the attorney-general’s powers in response to a High Court decision rejecting a defamation suit brought by former attorney-general Apandi Ali against him.

The court held that Lim’s defence of justification was enough to defeat the suit, in which Apandi had sought damages of RM10 million.

The suit was over an article in which Lim questioned Apandi’s decision not to prosecute former prime minister Najib Razak over the 1MDB scandal.

Apandi said in his suit that Lim had depicted him as someone who was immoral and unethical, without integrity, and had practised double standard while holding the position of attorney-general. - FMT
