Agencies under the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry such as Felda, Felcra and Risda should convert their idle land with acreage of up to 323.7ha into agrofood projects, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“Only 1.2 million hectares of land are utilised for food plantations compared to seven million for oil palm and rubber,” he said when tabling Budget 2023 in Dewan Rakyat today.
Anwar said the government will allocate RM30 million for cooperation with state governments for the implementation of agrofood projects.
Apart from that, the Defence Ministry and the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT), together with other companies will implement a project to enhance corn grain production for the purpose of food security.
“This will provide a career opportunity to armed forces veterans. LTAT will provide 28.3ha of land to implement this project,” he added.
