After setback, another Harapan-BN machinery launch in Selangor tomorrow

Pakatan Harapan and BN are scheduled to hold a Selangor election machinery launch event tomorrow - with top guns from both coalitions present.

This follows a previous failed attempt to launch their joint campaign - which saw most top coalition leaders, and any BN representative for that matter, skip attendance.

According to a media invite sent yesterday, the "Madani Unity Roadshow" and "Unity Machinery Launch" will be held at the Laman Niaga Bandar Naru Bangi, near the Tenera Hotel.

The event will start in the evening with a carnival featuring food trucks, and booths for various Selangor government initiatives such as free health screenings and the state's life insurance scheme.

Meanwhile, the political speeches are expected to start at 8pm.

The media invite states that among the speakers are Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari and Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin.

The six state elections will be the first time that Harapan and BN - which formed a coalition federal government - will be working together at the polls.

However, seat negotiations have been thorny, and an attempt to launch the Selangor campaign two weeks ago got off to a rocky start.

Promotional material for the event on June 24 featured Anwar, Zahid, Amirudin, Megat, as well as DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.

However, Mohamad and Amirudin were the only top leaders billed to make an appearance - and attended the event.

Loke said he had to give the event a miss because he was unwell, sending DAP deputy chairperson Gobind Singh Deo to represent the party leadership instead.

A spokesperson from the Selangor Menteri Besar Office had confirmed that the prime minister could not make it to the event that night as he had to attend to another matter that came at the "last minute".

Meanwhile, there were no BN leaders present at the event.

Selangor BN, however, denied they had boycotted the event.

Instead, they said a joint launch with Harapan would be launched later, believed to be in reference to the programme being organised tomorrow. - Mkini
