Loke: Harapan-BN cooperation helped DAP attract Malay voters

Pakatan Harapan’s cooperation with BN at the state level has helped DAP attract Malay support for its candidates, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

“It shows Harapan’s alliance with BN increases support (for DAP).

“We can see there are areas in Chennah, which for two terms I was the assemblyperson, but we never won (in those areas).

“This time we won in the Kampung Chennah polling district where there are many Malay and Orang Asli voters.

“It is a significant decision and we must strengthen our cooperation,” Loke told reporters in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, last night.

Harapan won 17 seats in Negeri Sembilan while BN, through Umno, contributed 14. The Madani pact could thus form the new state government with 31 out of the 36-seat state legislative assembly.

Negeri Sembilan also marked Umno’s best performance - the other five seats it won were two in Selangor, two in Penang, and one in Kelantan.

Meanwhile, Harapan Negeri Sembilan chairperson Aminuddin Harun said the loss in five seats was unexpected.

“We see there are several areas that we need to conduct a post-mortem on the loss, and how it can be addressed in future,” he said.

“I’m confident the cooperation between Harapan and BN will create a strong coalition government, with many experienced leaders.

“This will be a very strong government because everyone has their respective strengths,” he said. - Mkini
