Despite the opposition not winning any seats in the Terengganu election, check-and-balance can come from the people as well as Perikatan Nasional representatives, said Abdul Hadi Awang.
The PAS president assured that, with PN making a clean sweep of all 32 seats in the polls yesterday, administrating the Terengganu government will proceed as normal without opposition.
“We will encourage a culture of advising, including the people themselves who can critique the government.
“In fact, it can gladly be said that in Islam, assemblypersons can critique and air views despite there being no opposition,” he said, as quoted by Berita Harian.
Hadi was speaking during a press conference following the announcement of the state election results at Dewan Tok Guru Rusila, in Marang, Terengganu, late last night.
He also expressed gratitude to all those who voted for PN, allowing the coalition to secure major electoral victories in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah.
The PN deputy chairperson said the electoral victories were made possible by the awakening of the people especially among young voters.
“In fact, I was moved when not only (PN) was able to stay to administer Terengganu, but also made a clean sweep of all 32 state seats as well as the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat.”
The Kuala Terengganu seat was subjected to a by-election following an Election Court ruling that nullified PAS’ initial victory there during the 15th general election last year.
“PN was not only successful in remaining in Kelantan and Kedah, but was given a bigger victory this time by the people.
“Even though we failed to win three other states, what is noteworthy is that there has been an increase in seats (for PN) in Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan,” he said.
During the 14th general election in 2018, PAS clinched 22 out of 32 state seats in Terengganu, allowing it to become the state government, with BN obtaining 10 seats. - Mkini
