We will be fair to all even if we lose Malay votes - Selangor MB

The Selangor government will continue to be fair to all people of the state, said Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

He said this is both in line with his party and his creed.

“If I lose Malay votes, it doesn’t mean that I will give more to the Malays and forget about the Chinese and Indians.

“That’s our principle. We are a fair government. I will not change the policy and continue programmes that are fair to the people.

“We are ‘Keadlian Rakyat’ (PKR) and must give justice and implement fairness even though it is sometimes a problem.

“As a Muslim, (therefore) in Islam, it says that things in life will be judged based on justice,” Amirudin (above) said at the launch of the Selangor Indian Executive Association in Kuala Lumpur.

The association is an organisation that gathers all Selangor PKR division leaders who are of Indian descent, with Amirudin as its patron.

Of the 22 PKR divisions in Selangor, eight of them are led by Indian leaders.

‘60pct of Malays support PN’

Meanwhile, Amirudin said support from the Malay community towards Perikatan Nasional is now at its peak.

“They are now at the peak. When they reach the peak, they can go down or increase again. Because their support has almost reached 60 percent to 65 percent.

“That is already the maximum of any party that has the support of the Malays.

“We are a little less than 30 percent to 35 percent. But, we cannot compare ourselves, because in GE15, it was a three-cornered (fight). This time in the (state elections), it was only two.

“If they try to repeat the same narrative to divide us and the extreme sentiments of (one culture) that is not good for a multi-racial society, (then) they are not going anywhere,” he said.

In the Selangor state election, the Pakatan Harapan-BN coalition successfully defended the state after winning 34 state seats, while PN won 22 seats.

The state election this time saw PN dominating the Malay seats, resulting in Harapan losing the two-thirds majority it held in the state legislature since 2013 in Selangor.  - Mkini
