Palestinian leader to PAS: If can't fight with us, help with money and prayers

A Palestinian leader has appealed to PAS members to offer financial assistance and prayers if they are unable to take up arms against the Israeli military.

Speaking in Arabic, Syeikh Khaled Ghawannah said Muslims should support the Palestinians to uphold Islam.

Syeikh Khaled is a member of the non-military arm of the Al-Quds Brigade, which is a wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

“The Israelis killed children, women, and youths. Since the attack on Gaza intensified - till today, 4,000 Palestinians have been killed and thousands more injured. What are the Islamic world and the Muslims waiting for?” he was quoted as saying by The Star.

“In one day, the Israelis bombed the hospital (Israel has denied doing so) and killed 1,000 civilians and they continue to bomb the people’s homes.

“The Palestinians are fighting back for the sake of Islam and they will continue to do so. Will you Muslims leave us to fight alone?

“If you cannot come and fight with us in body, help us with your money and your prayers,” he told the PAS Muktamar in Shah Alam yesterday.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim said more than RM3 million was collected yesterday alone to aid Palestinians.

The Islamist party is expecting to collect RM10 million before the curtain falls on the muktamar, whose theme is solidarity with Palestine.

Previously, Hamas representative Muslim Imran said Malaysia could do more to help the Palestinians and recounted Anwar Ibrahim’s 2021 promise to do so if he became the prime minister.

“But the (Anwar-led)  government has been preoccupied with domestic politics and other concerns for a year or so. Until now, one week after the Israel attack, the response isn’t what Malaysia is capable of doing,” he said.

Muslim, who is based in Malaysia, later clarified that his remarks were taken out of context by Anwar’s critics and that he did not intend to belittle the prime minister’s efforts to help Palestinians.  - Mkini
