An Orang Asli youth was believed to have been killed by a tiger while he was out hunting for food in the Gua Musang district of Kelantan.
The resident of Kampung Sugi in Pos Pasik, Pisie Amud, 25, was found dead on a hill at Kampung Perwer, bordering an oil palm plantation yesterday, Harian Metro reported.
The Temiar youth’s head and body had claw marks while his left foot was missing, the daily reported.
Villagers went to look for him after he didn’t return since leaving home on Tuesday.
They also found tiger tracks and his blowpipe near his body, said village chief Mohd Sani Nahtiman.
The death was confirmed by Gua Musang district police chief Sik Choon Foo.

Since then, Kampung Sugi residents have taken shifts to guard their village in case the tiger returns, Mohd Sani said.
They gather to make noise and light fireworks to deter the tiger from coming close to the village, he explained.
This is the second fatal tiger-human conflict in the Gua Musang district this year.
In May, the body of Bateq youth, Halim Asin, 27, was found in a state of undress, stuck on a stump at the mouth of Sungai Tungul in Kampung Aring 5.
A post-mortem report found tiger bite marks on his neck while his skull was punctured, believed to be by the tiger’s teeth.
Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia rangers also found tiger tracks near where the body was found.
Recent tiger-human conflict
Last year, a 59-year-old man from Kampung Orang Asli Sau in Pos Bihai was killed by a tiger behind his home.
In 2021, Adin Adok, 45, of Kampung Badak in Pos Bihai survived a tiger attack.
He suffered severe injuries to his head, torso, left eye, shoulder, and arm when he was clawed by a tiger while tending to his crops near his home.
The Malayan tiger is an endangered species due to habitat loss and poaching. There are fewer than 150 tigers in the wild in Malaysia.
According to the Global Forest Watch, between 2010 to 2022, the Gua Musang district lost about a quarter of its forests. - Mkini
