Amanah: Imagine PAS ruling when it can't even pay 'Harakah' printers

The wrangle between PAS and the printers of its official mouthpiece Harakah is evident the Islamist party is not skilled at financial management, according to Amanah leadership committee member Faiz Fadzil.

Furthermore, he claimed that PAS allowing this issue to drag on for seven years showed that it is not concerned about the welfare of others.

Based on this, Faiz (above), whose late father Fadzil Noor headed the Islamist party before Abdul Hadi Awang took over the leadership reins in 2002, painted a bleak picture if PAS ruled Malaysia.

Calling PAS “irresponsible”, the Amanah leader said the Islamist party also failed to manage the finances of Terengganu and Kelantan, and therefore depends on funds from Putrajaya.

“It is certain that printing expenses would have been factored into the publishing cost. It is strange that the profit from sales of Harakah was not used to pay the printer.

“This is an irresponsible act; the printing firm must have many workers,” he told Malaysiakini.

Faiz also said it was unfortunate that the issue concerning the printers was not raised during the PAS Muktamar.

“As if PAS does not care at all about the plight of the people.

“If this is the attitude of a political party whose struggle is purportedly based on Islam, imagine the fate of the people if it rules the country?” he added.

Outstanding payments

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported the former Harakah printers criticising PAS over the outstanding payments after the mouthpiece fell into debt.

NAJ Press Resources (M) Sdn Bhd manager Hussin Jan accused PAS and its leadership of leading a lavish lifestyle.

“They use luxury cars, organise muktamar at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam with a fee that is sure to reach tens of thousands of ringgit. But when it comes to debt, they don’t even bother to solve the issue.

“It has been almost seven years; the debt has not been paid in full,” he said.

In August 2019, Malaysiakini reported on the dispute involving Harakah and two of its printers at that time - Angkatan Edaran Enterprise Sdn Bhd and NAJ Press Resources.

Angkatan Edaran had been declared bankrupt. However, the same management established NAJ Press Resources as a replacement and continued to print Harakah then.

Harakah’s debt with Angkatan Edaran has reached millions of ringgit whereas it owed NAJ Resources over RM600,000.

Hussin claimed that PAS and Harakah refused to settle the debt with Angkatan Edaran on the grounds that the firm had been shuttered. - Mkini
