Cops probe viral video of Kajang schoolgirl slapping classmate

The suspect apparently became angry when she saw a humiliating video of herself posted on a TikTok account.

PETALING JAYA: Kajang police are investigating a viral video of a schoolgirl slapping a classmate repeatedly for allegedly sharing a picture of her on social media without her consent.

In a statement, police said a report was received from a 17-year-old student involved in the incident at a school in Kajang.

The victim in this case has also lodged a report on the incident on Oct 21.

Police said investigations showed the suspect was in class when she saw a humiliating video of herself posted on her TikTok account.

“The video is said to have been made viral by her classmate. The student confronted her classmate and slapped her five times, asking why her photo was on the classmate’s phone,” police said.

The classmate who was slapped, on the other hand, claimed the photo was taken by the suspect herself using her phone.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for “voluntarily causing hurt” and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 as the video was posted on social media.

Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a punishment of imprisonment for up to one year or a fine up to RM2,000, or both. Section 233 of the CMA prescribes a fine of not more than RM50,000 or imprisonment for not more than one year, or both. - FMT
