Fadhli regrets not 'purifying' non-Muslims' outlook on PAS

Former PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari is upset for failing in his mission to "purify" non-Malays and non-Muslims' outlook toward the Islamist party.

In his final speech as the outgoing youth chief, Fadhli (above) admitted that was one of the things he failed to achieve during his stint.

"This is the biggest task I'm leaving to the (new) team... to see how PAS' image can be 'cleansed' in the eyes of the non-Muslims.

"This is so that we can ride into the elections and garner solid votes not only from the Malay and Muslim voters but the non-Muslims as well. This is a challenge," the Pasir Mas MP said in his speech at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam, Selangor, last night.

He admitted that the non-Malays supported PAS when the Islamist party was part of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition, as its then-ally DAP helped “cleanse” the voters' outlook toward the former.

"We can no longer rely on DAP to 'cleanse' the voters' outlook on us, but we have to do the job ourselves," he said, adding that if PAS succeeds in doing that, it could be in Putrajaya soon.

New PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden

Meanwhile, Fadhli's successor Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden pledged to carry the baton passed by the former and attract the non-Muslims to support the party.

The fact that PAS' 69th muktamar (annual general assembly) is attended by the non-Muslims shows that the party recognises non-Muslim leaders, he said.

"We will continue approaching the non-Muslims, where they can accept our viewpoint. We engage in dialogues, which has shown positive results (so far)," Afnan said.

On another matter, Afnan said PAS Youth would conduct a mass rally in front of the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur next Friday, to protest Israel's attacks against Palestine. -Mkini
