Malaysian tourist, 73, found dead in Ayodhya hotel room

NEW DELHI: A 73-year-old Malaysian tourist visiting the town of Ayodhya in northern India has been found dead in his hotel room.

The man, identified as Darma Raja RP Sammugam, was in a group of six people from Malaysia, according to local media reports.

He was staying near the construction site for a large Hindu temple at the spot where the 16th-century Babri Masjid once stood.

The cause of his death was not clear. The reports said he was found on the floor of his room with the television still on after two members of the group sought the hotel manager’s help to open the locked door.

The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Ayodhya is considered to be the birthplace of Rama, Hinduism’s most revered deity. A grand temple dedicated to Rama will open next year. - FMT
