Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is expected to initiate legal proceedings against Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) life honorary president Tan Kok Ping.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office announced that the state executive council, which met this morning, unanimously decided that Chow should haul the business tycoon to court.
“The statements were made during PCCC’s press conference yesterday, which were widely reported.
“The exco’s decision is based on media reports which quoted Tan as using words which tarnished the chief minister’s dignity,” it added.
PCCC had questioned the joint development agreement between the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) and a private firm with regard to the sale of land in Batu Kawan.
The PDC has since terminated the agreement.
In doing so, Tan said that Chow was "incompetent, ignorant, and shameless" for evading questions on the sale of said land, reported FMT.
Earlier this month, PCCC raised concerns about the land sold by PDC to Umech Construction Sdn Bhd (Umech) at below market price.
Chow defended the direct negotiation deal struck with Umech.
Earlier today, Bernama quoted Chow saying that the state government has directed PDC to review all land sale processes for projects involving its land. - Mkini
