Police’s open war on corrupt cops deserves support

Spill the beans and shame the devil. Indeed, citizens have much reason to applaud the police.

For the first time, as far as memory goes, we have one gallant police officer willing to nail the coffin of corrupt police personnel.

Bukit Aman CID chief Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain has issued a stern, bold, no-holds-barred warning to officers and low-ranking staff that corruption within the force is over.

Patriot applauds Shuhaily's warning to police personnel at the recent closed-door conference of CID chiefs held at Universiti Sains Malaysia.

The video footage of his speech, which is hogging social media and also being reported by responsible and committed media, affirms public hope for a timely and ultimate remedy to the force.

Patriot supports all efforts within the force to purge corruption. Officers like Shuhaily deserve support and cooperation from all segments of society.

We believe that the cornerstone to flush out errant cops is in the force’s willingness and courage to spill the beans and shame the devil.

The CID chief's reprimand sets the tone for an urgently needed reform. It will also inspire citizens to step forward and expose crooked cops working in tandem with the underworld and syndicates.

Patriot believes such warnings also further empower good cops within the forces as the good need a favourable system to prevail over and shun the bad apples.

Regain public trust

Syndicates must get the drift too. Patriot, therefore, supports the idea of getting the media to expose the people behind such syndicates as a deterrent.

Once the police earn the respect of the public and thereby further enhance their long tradition in ensuring the peace, order and safety of citizens and visitors is not compromised by corrupt personnel.

Patriot believes all our joint efforts by citizens, institutions and politicians will be further strengthened to arrest corruption in the country as a whole.

Viva the police. - Mkini
