Several trees uprooted in freak JB thunderstorm

 

Firemen using a chainsaw to cut a fallen tree after a thunderstorm hit Johor Baru on Monday (Oct 9).

JOHOR BARU: A freak thunderstorm has uprooted several trees in the city here.

The thunderstorm, which occurred at around 4pm on Monday (Oct 9) and lasted for about half an hour, felled trees along Jalan Segget, Jalan Storey and Jalan Jerau 5.

Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) immediately deployed its Skuad Kilat team at Jalan Segget and Jalan Storey to clear the fallen trees.

Firemen were also called to clear a fallen 2.5m-tall tree at Jalan Jerau 5 in Taman Pelangi here.

Larkin Fire and Rescue station operations commander Abd Wahab Nasir said they received a distress call at 5.12pm on Monday.

He said six firemen and one fire engine were deployed to the scene to help clear the road using a chainsaw and the operation ended at 5.48pm.

No one was injured during the thunderstorm. - Star
