Syahredzan refers PN MP to privileges committee over 'DAP kafir' jab

PARLIAMENT | Syahredzan Johan (Pakatan Harapan-Bangi) has referred Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (Perikatan Nasional-Pengkalan Chepa) to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee over the latter’s “DAP kafir” remark earlier this week.

Syahredzan, one of three DAP Muslim MPs, said he had submitted a motion on the matter yesterday and stood up to inquire a response from deputy speaker Ramli Mohd Nor, who presided over the session.

“I filed my motion because I feel the remark is in contempt of the House.

“I believe that we as MPs must put an end to such remarks, which also targeted me as a Muslim MP,” he said.

Marzuk then stood up to interject, accusing Syahredzan of misleading the House with the claim of being “targeted” by the remark.

The PN MP also attempted to raise a separate point of order against Syahredzan for falsely accusing him of making the remark.

Marzuk made the remark on Tuesday during his debate on the Supply Bill 2024.

However, he clarified that it was based on a 2016 statement by then Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman, who reportedly labelled the DAP as “kafir harbi” or infidels who oppose Muslims and the Islamic religion.
