Act within the law, FT mufti tells those boycotting Israel-linked brands

 

Federal Territories mufti Luqman Abdullah advised those boycotting brands linked to Israel to act within the law.

He pointed out that extreme behaviour goes against Islamic teachings.

“I advise the people to maintain good manners and morality in everything they do,” he told Free Malaysia Today.

Consumers have the right to boycott brands or products, but others cannot be forced to do the same, Luqman (above) added.

This comes after some netizens labelled pictures of Malays consuming products of brands allegedly linked to Israel as “dogs” and “pigs”.

Facebook page Ilmu Sunnah shared images generated using artificial intelligence depicting dogs consuming those products while wearing a songkok or tudung.

Five men have been arrested for allegedly provoking and threatening to hit a customer at a McDonald’s in Sungai Isap, Kuantan, Pahang on Friday.

Kuantan district police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the suspects, who were campaigning to boycott McDonald’s, had hurled insults and slurs when the 40-year-old complainant and his family wanted to dine there.

Luqman also said consumers must decide whether to boycott brands like McDonald’s based on facts.
