KUALA LUMPUR: "Why did they do this to me."

That was the question asked by national football player, Faisal Halim, after being a victim of an acid attack yesterday.

The matter was shared by the President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, after being one of the first individuals to visit Faisal in the hospital last night.

Hamidin, who sympathised and felt saddened by what happened to Faisal, informed that the 26-year-old player is also in a traumatised state.

"I have spoken with Faisal and his wife, forget about football for now because health is more important. There are some things (conversations with Faisal) that I cannot share.

"However, he (Faisal) cried and said 'why do they do this to me'. He is sad, and I am also sad seeing him. I understand that the doctors are examining the type of acid, afraid that it might be a type that can affect his internals.

"We hope Faisal receives the best treatment and recovers soon. Two incidents involving two national players (including Akhyar Rashid) have left us saddened and regretful. All players need to be more careful," he said during an interview with BH Sports at the FAM Headquarters today.

Earlier, Faisal was reported to have suffered injuries to his arms and body after being attacked by an unknown individual using a suspected acid substance while at a prominent supermarket in Kota Damansara yesterday afternoon.

The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, yesterday reported that a man was detained in Pandan Indah to assist in the investigation.

Hamidin declined to make any speculations about the cause of the incident involving Faisal, instead leaving it to the authorities to conduct the investigation.

He also explained that the injury suffered by Faisal may take several months to heal, thereby potentially missing out on the remaining two qualification matches for the 2026 World Cup/2027 Asian Cup next month. - NST
