A spokesman from the Penang fire and rescue department said an emergency call was received at 7.11am, Berita Harian reported.
“The fire destroyed 15 vehicles – 14 cars and one motorcycle – along with workshop equipment and machinery,” he said in a statement.
The spokesman added that when the team arrived at the scene, the fire had engulfed the workshop, with an estimated 80% of the premises affected.
“A 63-year-old male victim, a family member of the workshop owner, suffered first-degree burns while attempting to escape the blaze.
“The victim was taken to a nearby hospital by members of the public for treatment,” he said.
He added that the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still being investigated. - FMT
