According to lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, the politician, whose real name is Badrul Hisham Shaharin, is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 500 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA).

Rafique said he will accompany Badrul when he meets investigators at the federal police headquarters at Bukit Aman in the afternoon, before which they will hold a press conference outside the main entrance.

The lawyer confirmed that his client was summoned over his Facebook post on Sunday, in which Badrul claimed the Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, is facing several health issues.

He also alleged that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was not invited to the Conference of Malay Rulers’ pre-council meeting last week.

Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act stipulates offences related to actions with seditious tendency. It carries a punishment of a maximum RM5,000 fine, or jail term not exceeding three years, or both.

Section 500 and 505(b) of the Penal Code stipulate offences pertaining to defamation and statements conducing to public mischief, while Section 233 of the CMA is on the misuse of network facilities. - Mkini
