Delays due to ‘very high’ number of passengers, says KTMB

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has blamed the large number of passengers on its KTM trains to Batu Caves for the longer waiting times.

Commuters travelling to and from the Batu Caves KTM station over the past two days have been enjoying free rides in conjunction with the Thaipusam festival.

Earlier today, FMT reported that the overwhelming response to the offer had led to chaotic scenes at several stations.

In a statement, KTMB said it added six three-carriage trains to service the KL Sentral-Batu Caves-KL Sentral route to accommodate the large number of passengers.

“However, due to the high number of passengers, many had to wait longer as the arriving trains were already full,” it said.

“This meant some passengers had to wait for the next train, which departs once every hour.”

KTMB also said trains stayed longer at stations to ensure passengers were able to board and alight the trains safely.

KTMB said it appreciated its passengers’ patience and cooperation throughout the Thaipusam service period and thanked its staff for ensuring smooth operations.

On normal days, the one-way fare for the KL Sentral-Batu Caves trip by Komuter train is RM2.60. - FMT
