The shortage, said to have resulted from the floods and landslides that hit an LPG terminal in Bintulu, has caused frustration for many households and business owners.
According to business owner Mohamad Abdullah Jamin, the LPG cylinder supply issue began over a week ago.
“I usually stock up to eight LPG cylinders at my stall, but because of the disruption in supply, six have already been fully used. I only have two LPG cylinders remaining, which will not last long,” he said, according to a report by the Borneo Post.
Judy Balan, a homeowner from Permyjaya, Miri, said she has been unable to get a new LPG cylinder since last week.
“I have been asking my friends, but they’re also having a hard time getting one for themselves. Finally, I managed to buy one from a mini-mart in Bakam, which is over 50km from my house,” she said.
An unnamed restaurant owner said she may be forced to close her business for a few days if LPG cylinders remain unavailable.
Many took to social media to voice their dissatisfaction with the long wait and difficulties in securing LPG cylinders.
One social media user said she had to use an electric stove to cook as she could not get a new LPG cylinder.
Heavy rainfall in Bintulu has caused landslides and floods near the LPG terminal there, prompting LPG distributor PetrosNiaga to reroute LPG distribution to the Senari independent oil terminal in Kuching. - FMT
