At least nine PKR Youth state chapters have declared their support for prime minister’s aide Kamil Abdul Munim as the next chief for the party’s youth wing.
The states backing Kamil include Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, and Malacca.
Malaysiakini understands that the Sabah and Sarawak youth wing branches are expected to issue statements soon in support of Kamil, who is Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary in the Finance Ministry.
State PKR Youth leaders supporting him have cited his role as the deputy youth chief in strengthening the organisation and mobilising the party machinery.
Previously, Kamil said he was considering the grassroots calls for him to contest the PKR Youth leadership in the upcoming May polls.
This came after PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim announced that he would be running for a position in the central leadership committee.

Likely no challengers
A party leadership source indicated that there may not be a contest for the youth chief position.
"Although it is still early, I don’t see any clear challengers at the moment, so there might not be a contest," the source said.
The source also revealed a proposal requiring candidates for the PKR Youth chief position to secure at least 20 nominations from party branches.
"Nominations must be made at the branch level. However, this has not been finalised - let’s wait for the central leadership committee’s decision," the source added. - Mkini
