Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (PN-Alor Setar) argued for the one-state solution that recognises only Palestine, given the ongoing atrocities committed against the Palestinian people.
“The two-state solution means recognising both Palestine and Israel. If we push for this, we are essentially aligning with what Israel and its allies want. This is a political ploy,” he said.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat today, Afnan praised foreign minister Mohamad Hasan for his recent statement that Palestine should be free and at peace, but disagreed with Malaysia’s acceptance of the two-state solution.
He said Malaysian passports stated they were valid for all countries, except Israel.
“If we truly accept the two-state solution, then what is the meaning of this restriction in our passports?
“It makes no sense to say we accept the two-state solution while maintaining such a policy,” he said.
Afnan said publicly endorsing the two-state solution could be interpreted as condoning Israel’s actions.
“At the very least, do not say that we accept the two-state solution. What message are we sending if we appear to legitimise the cruelty and oppression faced by the Palestinian people?” Afnan asked.
Malaysia has long been a vocal supporter of Palestine, consistently condemning Israel’s actions in Palestine.
The invalidity of the Malaysian passport for Israel is due to Putrajaya’s lack of recognition or diplomatic relations with Jerusalem. - FMT
