PETALING JAYA: 

Umno’s Ayer Kuning assemblyman, Ishsam Shahruddin, has died at the age of 58.

Sungai Manik assemblyman Zainol Fadzi Paharudin of Bersatu confirmed the matter with FMT.

Zainol, who was previously with Umno, said the Perak assemblyman had collapsed during a friendly football match that he was playing in.

FMT was made to understand that he died from a heart attack.

Ishsam used to be a professional footballer and won the first ever Malaysia FA Cup with Perak in 1990. The midfielder had also represented the national squad.

After retiring from the sport, he ventured into business and also politics.

He was elected Ayer Kuning assemblyman during the 2022 general election, winning the seat in a five-cornered contest with a 2,213-vote majority ahead of his closest contender, Bersatu’s Nazri Hashim. - FMT
