I received the following today. Its a Facebook post by someone using the name Dr Shafat Yousof. Its some observations about the Gaza situation and what the writer says is the apathy of the Muslim world. Do read my own comments at the end.

--a short note by Dr. Shafat Yousof

The rotten spectacle of 1.8 billion Muslims watching Gaza's systematic extermination reveals the absolute death of Islamic consciousness and the terminal rot in the Muslim soul. While Filisteenean flesh burns and children's bodies are pulled from rubble like broken dolls, the so-called Muslim ummah wallows in its pathetic incapacity, masking its moral cowardice with worthless prayers and hashtags.

This isn't just a failure โ€“ it's the ultimate nail in the coffin of Muslim identity, exposing the fraudulent nature of every single Muslim who dares to utter the shahada while Gaza drowns in blood. The bitter truth screams from every bombed mosque and every massacred family:

Muslims have become nothing but hollow shells, spiritually dead creatures who wear their religion like a comfortable costume while their brothers and sisters are genocided in real-time. This isnโ€™t mere shame โ€“ itโ€™s an irredeemable damnation that exposes the complete ethical collapse of a people who claim to follow a religion of justice and courage.

The putrefying corpse of Muslim identity will forever stink of this betrayal, haunting every daily prayer, every Ramadan, every Hajj with the screams of Gaza's children that Muslims chose to ignore. How dare these 1.8 billion cowards call themselves Muslims while they watch, tweet, and โ€œprayโ€ as their own people are systematically exterminated?

The genocide in Gaza isn't just recording Filisteenean deaths; it's documenting the spiritual death of the entire so-called Muslim ummah โ€“ a pathetic mass of humanity that has become nothing but passive observers of their own moral extinction.

This terminal shame will forever poison every aspect of Muslim existence, a perpetual testament to the moment when the followers of Prophet Muhammad became complicit in the very oppression they were commanded to stand against.

Future generations won't just inherit this shame; they'll carry it as proof that their ancestors were nothing but hypocrites who reduced their faith to empty rituals while their brothers and sisters were slaughtered like animals.

This moral catastrophe stands as the culmination of decades of Muslim decline โ€“ from the Sykes-Picot betrayal to the shameful normalization deals with oppressors. The Muslim world, once claiming to be a beacon of justice and dignity, has devolved into a collection of puppet states and compromised regimes, their leaders trading the blood of Palestinians for temporary political gain and economic convenience.

The transformation of Islam's holiest cities, Mecca and Madina, into grotesque monuments of capitalism โ€“ where luxury hotels tower over the Ka'aba and shopping malls overshadow the Prophet's mosque โ€“ symbolizes this spiritual decay.

While Muslims prostrate in the shadow of five-star hotels and perform tawaaf beneath luxury clock towers, their Palestinian brothers and sisters are being systematically exterminated.

Every Muslim child born henceforth will inherit not just the shame of Gaza, but the cumulative weight of a civilization that chose submission to oppressors over submission to Allah, material comfort over moral courage, and diplomatic niceties over divine commands.

The very concept of Islamic solidarity has become a cruel joke, a meaningless slogan mouthed by leaders who rush to condemn cartoons but remain incapable as Gazan children are bombed in their sleep. This isnโ€™t just the death of Palestinian children โ€“ itโ€™s the death of everything Islam was meant to represent: justice, courage, solidarity, and standing firm against oppression.

The Muslim worldโ€™s response to Gaza will be studied for generations as the moment when the so-called ummah finally admitted that its faith was nothing more than an empty cultural identity, its principles nothing more than theoretical abstractions, and its claimed brotherhood nothing more than a convenient fiction.

The blood of Gaza's children doesn't just stain Israeli bombs; it stains every Muslim's prayer mat, every pilgrim's ihram, and every pretence of Islamic values in our morally bankrupt age.

My Comments:

1. The Arabs themselves are deeply divided in their politics over the situation in Gaza. Over the past 31 years there has been a sort of rapproachment between the Arabs and Israelis. Jordan signed a peace accord with Israel in 1994. In 2020 the Abrahamic Accords were first signed between Israel, the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.

It is widely held that Saudi Arabia was about to sign the Abrahamic Accords when the October 7th attack against Israel happened. It has certainly postponed Saudi Arabia's signing of the Accords but the talk now is that Saudi Arabia, Syria plus other Arab countries will be signing the Abrahamic Accords with Israel soon.

There are no more 'generalised' Arab Israeli wars or even Israeli Palestinian wars.

The Israeli-Lebanon wars (maybe three of them since 2000) have all been fought inside Lebanon between Israel and the Shiah Hezbollah. The Hezbollah being proxies of Shia Iran. So they were no more Arab Israeli wars involving the entire Arab world.

Likewise the Israeli-Hamas wars have all been fought inside Gaza between Hamas and Israel. Hamas is a proxy of the Muslim Brotherhood and also of Iran now. The Palestinians in the West Bank did not take part in any of the Israeli - Hamas wars. The West Bank is under the Fatah faction (the old PLO) who are not at war with Israel and who are mortal enemies of the Hamas. So there are no more 'generalised' Israeli Palestinian wars either. It is now a strictly Israeli Hamas war in Gaza.

And around the Arab world many Arab countries are not too friendly towards Hamas either - on account of Hamas being an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood who are themselves mortal enemies of many Arab regimes (Egypt, Saudi, the Gulf countries etc).

As I said before the Middle East is a really complicated place. You can never know who will stab who in the back.

2. There are other more serious and genocidal wars going on between Muslims but the Islamic world does not seem to care about them. There are four major wars and all four will get worse.

i. The Sudan conflict has been going on for ever, maybe 50 years. Hundreds of thousands of Muslims have been killed. But the Islamic world really does not seem to care. No one even knows exactly how many have been killed but the slaughter has been on an industrial scale. Men, women, children have all been killed by the village-full. It is still ongoing and thousands more are being killed. No one cares.

ii. The Turkish genocide against the Kurdish people. The Kurdish people are largely Sunni Muslims but the Turks (who are also Sunnis) do not like them because they speak a different language plus they have a long history of conflict. There are over 30 million Kurds spread along the border regions of Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq. Out of 85 million Turkish population over 20% or 17 million of them are Kurdish. Thousands of Kurdish people have been killed by Turkish troops over the years. And Kurdish villages and towns inside Turkey and along the border areas have been bombed by Turkey back to the Stone Age.

These are pictures of the Kurdish city of Cizre (inside Turkey) that was destroyed by the Turkish military.

iii.   The Saudi genocide against Yemen. Ten years ago in 2015 the Saudis unilaterally attacked Yemen. They killed tens of thousands of Yemenis in indiscriminate bombing. While the civilian population suffered the Houthi military remained quite intact. This conflict tapered off but it may possibly flare up again.

iv. The Pakistani campaign against the Baloch people.  This conflict has been going on for decades but is now gaining momentum. There are a few reasons for this. Pakistan is financially broke. They cannot afford to put enough troops on the ground in Balochistan (and Khyber Pakhtunwa). Pakistan has now been cut off quite completely from American money and assistance. As a result the Baloch resistance fighters are ramping up their attacks against the Pakistani state. A largely Punjabi dominated army is also not too keen on combat operations in a territory which is quite alien to them (culturally and linguistically).

Over 2200 people were killed in terror attacks in Pakistan in 2024. Since 2000 the total death toll has crossed 70,000 killed. The Baloch conflict will likely contribute more deaths in the coming years.

So you see the Islamic world does not really care about Sudan, Yemen, Kurdish or Baloch. If you ask the Gazans and Palestinians where is Balochistan they may not even know such a place existed.

3. Is it the problem of individual groups or is it a larger problem ? It appears that regardless of whether they are Nigerians, Sudanese, Arabs, Turkish, Kurdish, Baloch, Yemenis, Rohingya, Pakistani, southern Thai (Malay) or Moro (Mindanao) the Muslims  are frequently embroiled in conflict. Conflict within themselves and with their neighbours.

Sadly these conflicts have been going on for some time.  Some deep reflection may be useful.

The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect that of MMKtT.
