PETALING JAYA
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and economy ministry have agreed to set up a special task force to monitor the implementation of development projects approved by the ministry at the state and district levels.

In a statement, MACC said the task force will focus on several key areas to improve transparency and governance.

The agreed terms of reference include information sharing between the ministry and MACC regarding the amount of allocations approved for each state and district.

“(The terms also include) unannounced inspections and investigations into any suspected corruption, abuse of power or mismanagement in the implementation of projects,” the statement said.

The task force will also identify weaknesses in current standard operating procedures and propose efforts to enhance them.

“This includes improving budget allocation processes, project monitoring and implementation to ensure stronger governance,” said the commission.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki welcomed the move, saying he appreciated the commitment and openness shown by economy minister Rafizi Ramli in ensuring transparency and curbing leakages in ministry-approved projects.

“The minister’s willingness to cooperate fully with MACC is commendable and should serve as a model for other ministries and government agencies,” he said. - FMT
