MACC probes officer found at entertainment centre raid

 

MACC is probing its integrity unit officer who recently came under police investigation.

In a statement today, the anti-graft agency confirmed that it had taken note of the police’s surprise inspection of an entertainment centre in Kuala Lumpur, which also involved the officer.

“Further investigation has been handed over to the police, and MACC will provide full cooperation to the authorities in conducting investigations into the incident.

“In this regard, the agency has also opened an internal investigation paper to examine the officer’s involvement in detail to determine whether there was any violation of the service code of ethics or the law,” the graftbusters said.

It vowed to take action against any officers who have violated the law or the commission’s integrity while emphasising its commitment to transparency, accountability and integrity.

Previously, a police source told Malaysiakini that seven civil servants were found in the entertainment centre during the raid.

Aside from the MACC officer, they found a police officer with the rank of station chief and five immigration officers.

For the record, the MACC officer was once appointed as the head of the Immigration Department’s integrity unit for a state before being transferred back to MACC headquarters.

Malaysiakini has also contacted and is awaiting comment from the Immigration Department regarding the check on its officers. - Mkini
