Ministry calls on MCMC to act against racist statement on X platform

Menteri Perpaduan Negara Aaron Ago Dagang
National unity minister Aaron Dagang urged social media users to avoid any actions that can trigger racial or religious tensions.

PETALING JAYA
The national unity ministry has lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) regarding a racist and provocative statement on the X social media platform.

Bernama quoted national unity minister Aaron Dagang as hoping that appropriate action would be taken against the individual under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which deals with wrong usage of network facilities.

“We are committed to ensuring the harmony and unity of Malaysians continues to be preserved. Therefore, any form of statement or action that can undermine unity and fuel hatred is completely unacceptable.

“I would like to remind all parties to be more ethical in the use of social media and avoid any actions that can trigger racial and religious tensions,” the minister said in a post on his X platform.

Earlier, two tweets by an X user, dated March 5 and March 26, against the Indian community went viral but these posts were later deleted. - FMT
