Graphic artist and social activist Fahmi Reza has shared a photo of himself seemingly in Sabah, following a series of border control blunders involving the police and Immigration Department.
Fahmi's photo shows him standing opposite the Maybank branch on Gaya Street in Kota Kinabalu, a popular tourist spot, announcing his arrival in the state.
"'Apa khabar urang Sabah!' (How are you all, people of Sabah!), Fahmi wrote in a brief post, seemingly teasing his fans and followers, and tagging his location as being in Kota Kinabalu.
It's unclear whether Fahmi's travel ban has been lifted or whether the photo is just a tease.
Malaysiakini has reached out to Fahmi and the Home Ministry for clarification.
On June 12, Fahmi pointed to a peculiar situation regarding his travel restrictions, where the English site indicates there is no restriction imposed.
However, the Malay version indicated there was a travel restriction imposed on him.

A day later, the Immigration Department clarified that Fahmi was only restricted from entering under state authorities’ orders.
As for the confusion surrounding the two sites, the department mentioned that the English site was undergoing update works.
On June 8, Fahmi said he would sue the government after he was prevented from flying to Singapore for a concert the day before.
He accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s office and former inspector-general of police Razarudin Husain of only passing the blame instead of taking responsibility. - Mkini
