Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has denied that the Sungai Tua seat, which he won in the 2023 state election, would be vacated.
The PKR vice-president described the allegation as imaginative and baseless, and that vacating a seat to make way for an individual was not as simple as some might think.
“It’s not that straightforward - it requires careful consideration,” Bernama reported him as saying today.
He said this after attending an e-Bike handover ceremony at the Selangor police contingent headquarters.
Amirudin was responding to speculations that he would be vacating the Sungai Tua seat to make way for Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz to contest there.
This comes after Zafrul quit Umno on Friday to join PKR, reigniting earlier rumours that he would be contesting a state seat in Selangor and eventually become the menteri besar.
However, Zafrul’s departure from Umno was ill-received by some of his former party colleagues, with supreme council member Puad Zarkashi urging Umno divisions to table a motion at the party’s annual delegates conference condemning Zafrul’s party-hopping and PKR. - Mkini
