Former Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Reezal Merican says PAC was established based on openness and transparency.
KEPALA BATAS : Former Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Reezal Merican Naina Merican has given an assurance that there will be no cover-up of any information in the investigation on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
He said PAC was established based on openness and transparency as its members comprised not only Barisan Nasional (BN) parliamentary members, but also the opposition parties.
In fact, he said, the committee comprised almost 30 members, taking into account representatives and officers from the Auditor-General and from the Finance Ministry.
“The information received by each and every member is the same. When a particular matter is tabled, all the members will know about it.
“How can there be a conspiracy, if there are 30 people, to cover-up or lie about a case, including the 1MDB issue.
“How can there be a conspiracy, if there are 30 people, to cover-up or lie about a case, including the 1MDB issue.
“As such, I can assure that there will be no room for covering up on sensitive issues like 1MDB,” he told reporters at a thanksgiving event in conjunction with his appointment as deputy foreign minister here last night.
He said this when asked whether the appointment of four PAC members in the cabinet would disrupt investigation of the 1MDB case. The three other PAC members are Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who has been appointed Deputy Home Minister, Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister) and Wilfred Madius Tangau (Science, Technology and Innovation Minister).
Reezal who is Kepala Batas Member of Parliament, said his appointment, as well as the other three PAC members, in the cabinet would not affect investigation of 1MDB.
“The truth will prevail and the people will know it,” he added.
