Repair work is being carried out and only Bays Q10 and Q12 are still closed, says DCA director-general.
PUTRAJAYA: An initial investigation into an oil leak at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) last Sunday is likely to have been caused by a leak in an underground pipeline at Bays Q10 and Q12, said the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
DCA director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said MA Sepang, a subsidiary of Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd, and Kuala Lumpur Aviation Fuelling System (KAFS) were actively carrying out further investigations and repair work on the leaking pipelines.
“DCA will be monitoring the situation closely to ensure the investigation and repair work are conducted strictly in accordance with safety procedures,” he said in a statement here today.
Last Sunday, an oil leak had been detected at Bays Q10 and Q12 by MA Sepang staff.
According to Azharuddin, as a precautionary measure, the oil pipeline for Bays Q2, Q4, Q6, Q8, Q10, Q12 and Q14 were closed for cleaning and further inspection by after the incident.
“However, only Bays Q10 and Q12 are still closed as a result of the incident, while the others are operating as usual,” he said.
He added that DCA had sent an inspection team to ensure that safety measures were adhered to prevent any untoward incidents.
