Manila Times : "..(Abu Sayyaf) may be in cahoots with government officials from Malaysia and the Philippines who may have shared the money among themselves."

Oh oh - this is more trouble.  This is really explosive.
  • The Manila Times says the Abu Sayyaf were paid 100 million Philippine Pesos.
  • But the collection was 130 million Pesos (RM12 million).
  • So where did the missing 30 million pesos go to?
Here is the Manila Times:

  • ‘Malaysians freed for P130M ransom’
  • They were freed last week
  • But Abu Sayyaf got only P100M
  • paid P130m but only P100m reached bandits, highly placed sources
  • raised suspicions rebels in cahoots with officials from M'sia / Philippines
  • may have shared money among themselves
payment of ransom was confirmed by Msian DPM Zahid Hamidi
Hamidi publicly admitted that RM12m was paid

burning issue in Malaysia
ransom payment is headlines
surprisingly, yet to reach Philippine media’s attention

Abu Sayyaf incensed money was actually P130 million
only P100 million reached them,” senior official told Manila Times.
“The question is, where did the missing money go?” the source asked.
Rumors that money was coursed through special branch of M'sian police
given to local officials in Sulu before ending in hands of Abu Sayyaf

a local government official in Sulu was involved in negotiations
common knowledge in Malaysia that P30m is paid as ransom
P130m by far is the highest,” said other source.

M'sian media report M'sian police vehemently denied ransom paid
claim Abu Sayyaf pressured to release hostages because of barter ban

Zahid said RM12m paid to “legally and religiously sanctioned” organizations
Zahid did not identify which religious organizations got money

“I confirm RM12m handed to SB as contribution to organizations in Philippines,”

According to The Manila Times source, there is credence to allegations by Jolo Mayor Hussin Amin that some local officials, probably including the military, may have colluded with Abu Sayyaf

Obviously, there is complicity here. Much of the answers could be provided by the governor of Sulu [Abdusakur Tan],” the source said.

My comments : This is getting messier. Lets say the Philippine Army are in cahoots with the Abu Sayyaf's 'kidnap and ransom' business, then what is the purpose of ESSCOM?

What is the purpose of the Police (both theirs and others).

Quite soon (if it is not happening already) the Abu Sayyaf will be working hand-in-hand with the Philippine Army to help identify and kidnap high value victims.

The Abu Sayyaf will do the kidnapping and the ransom negotiations and the Philippine Army will provide the security cover.
