JOHOR BARU: The people will have to give the Johor palace a miss this Hari Raya Aidilfitri as the royal family has decided to celebrate the festive season in private.
According to Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar's official Facebook page, the royal family would not be hosting its customary Hari Raya open house for the public this year.
The Johor royal family would instead perform prayers at the mosque before visiting the Royal Mausoleum to recite the Yassin for the late Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil before retiring for a private lunch.
It was announced that while the royal family enjoys every opportunity to be close to the public especially during Hari Raya, the sultan and Permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah would like to celebrate the festivities privately with their family in memory of their late son.
The late prince passed away on Dec 5 last year and his birthday would fall on July 5, which is the last day of Ramadan.

The post read that it would be an especially poignant and difficult time for the royal family as they mourn the late prince.
They also expressed the wish that those who hoped to visit them as with previous years would understand and respect their wishes to have some private time together.
It is a yearly tradition for people of all races to flock to Istana Pasir Pelangi to celebrate Hari Raya with the royals where they are treated to a spread of local and traditional fare.
The visitors were also given the chance to meet the sultan and his family members up close and even snap photos together.
