The Negri Sembilan government today dismissed rumours that the supply of essential items in the state are on the decline and that the items are being sold at higher prices during Ramadan.
State executive councillor for Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Hasim Rusdi said the rumours were untrue.
"Seventeen controlled items are still being sold at the fixed ceiling price, and some traders are even willing to sell the items at much lower prices.
Traders in farmers' markets, for example, can still sell chicken at RM7.70 per kg instead of the fixed price of RM7.90.
"So, the perception and rumours that the prices of vegetables and daily essential items sold at farmers' markets are costly are not true," he told reporters at the Leader-Meets-Traders at the Paroi Jaya farmers' Market in Seremban today.
Furthermore, he said the committee had not received any official complaint about the shortage of essential items and price hikes in the state.
