JITRA: Two suspects in the fatal shooting of a CID detective from Bukit Aman on Friday night have been remanded for seven days until Aug 26.
Mohd Hatta Johari, 30, and Mohd Najib Budin, 36, were brought to the magistrate’s court here at 8.30am on Sunday to be remanded, The Star Online reported.
Magistrate Mohd Hadi Hakimi Harun granted the remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).
The duo had initially gone into hiding after the killing of Sub Inspector Abu Hashim Ismail, 54, but turned themselves in on Saturday, according to Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Ibrahim, the news portal reported.
Abu Hashim, who was on leave, was chatting on the porch of an acquaintance’s house in Taman Sri Hosba in Changloon at 10.25pm, when a gunman approached them and fired several shots, killing the policemen on the spot.
Kedah police chief Comm Asri Yusoff said police found five bullet casings and three bullet slugs at the scene of the crime. The body has been sent to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar for a post-mortem.
Comm Asri said it was believed Abu Hashim was at his acquaintance’s house to obtain information on smuggling and underworld activities in the Bukit Kayu Hitam area.
